Welcome to Class 4's Blog
Dear Class 4,
I hope you are all well, safe and happy!
I am just sat in my office putting photos together for the folder which is displayed in the foyer and remembering some of the lovely learning we have done so far this year. It got me thinking about all the various activities you are doing at home and I hope you are getting to enjoy this great weather we are having at the moment.
Family Gil have been creating a vegetable patch in a corner of my garden and we have our mini green house up with various vegetables; peas, lettuce, carrots and radish grown from seed.
I wonder what you have achieved?
I hope you are enjoying the new online lessons from www.thenational.academy/online-classroom. Family Gil have been completing them everyday. I really enjoyed Wednesday's Science lesson - What is the Theory of Evolution? This is part of our new Science topic for Autumn!
I am excited about what you have learnt from this online lesson and how we can use that to make our own investigations into evolution.
What has been your favourite lesson this week?
Keep safe and keep well,
Hello Class 4!

1st May 2020
Hello Class 4,
I can't believe it is the 1st May already. Time seems to be flying by. Apart from making the delicious banana bread from Mrs. Petko, Family Gil have been learning more from the online lessons. It was clear from my chats with you yesterday that half of you are enjoying the same lessons as we are and the other half are preferring the BBC bitesize lessons. We will have to compare notes when we are back together.
I had a lovely day yesterday chatting with each of you and I was fascinated to hear all the different learning you have been doing. Thank you so much for all your emails with pictures of your work. I am impressed.
I forgot to mention last week that on Saturday 25th April it was World Penguin Day which of course caused much excitement in Casa Gil. Pengy made George bake penguin cakes and we were watching a webcam from Edinburgh Zoo, where we visited the penguins at Christmas. The penguins were all snuggled in their nests. This brings me to the fact that London Sea life Centre (Merlin) are showing the penguins being fed at 2pm today so everything will be stopping in Casa Gil to enjoy their fishy lunch!
Keep your lovely emails coming and don't forget I can help if there is anything you don't understand in your work.
Right....got to calm Pengy down as he is dancing around the kitchen ready for his fishy lunch.
Keep well and stay safe,
Mrs Gil (yes.....and Pengy!)

Good morning Class 4,
I hope you have all been celebrating VE day. Bunting out, cakes at the ready and a minute silence.
It has been excellent to see pictures of all your amazing work and so many of you have been sending me PowerPoint or photos to save and share when we come back together at school. If you haven't already emailed some of your work to me; please do. Remember, there are work suggestions and links on the parent mail letter sent out after Easter.
Our vegetable bed has come on in the last week. We have now got onions coming through and tomato plants ready for potting on. How are all your little seeds growing?
We are going to cook a birthday cake today for my husband so we can get it decorated for Sunday when we have a zoom birthday party with family. George will be baking and Fred helping to decorate. I will let you know if it is a success or a mess! It can be 50/50 with my baking unlike some of your amazing cakes. Banana breads were looking fabulous, chocolate muffins to make your tummy rumble. Keep baking!
I look forward to seeing what you are doing next!
Stay safe and keep well,
Hello class 4 - hope your all keeping well!
As you all know, today is a very special day (VE Day)
My niece kindly made some bunting to hang on my fence and we have put up some balloons too!
Just before 11am - 2 minute silence, a young child about your age came out with her family and played
her trumpet it was so moving and emotional too!
We will be holding a street party today with scones and tea and we shall be listening to some music too, back from the war days.
I hope you all will be doing something special today too!
Take care and keep safe,
Hola Class 4,
I have been given the important task of looking after the potatoes from Class 3. I am going to get them planted up and see how many potatoes they produce. Miss Robbins has asked me to take photos and I can share these with both Class 3 and Class 4. How are your gardens growing?
I wanted to share what my husband and I have been doing to put a smile on our neighbours faces. I came home from school one day to find my husband had put a few books in a box on our front drive and a sign in our living room window saying- Books Beat Boredom! Share, Swap, Enjoy! (We recommended people isolated the books for 72 hours to be safe). Now 8 weeks on, we have 4 boxes of books on our drive and lots of families come round as part of their walk each day and enjoy choosing a new book and quite often bring a few with them. I have had some little notes thanking us for doing this which has been so kind of people. I smile each time I see a child looking through and finding it hard to know which book to choose. :-)
I then decided alongside this to add some house plants out there. I have had many babies from my spider plants and money plants so I have included a tray of these each day which have been taken and will hopefully give someone else the same pleasure as me.
Have you got anything like this where you live? How are the houseplants going from when school sold some houseplants? What makes you smile around where you live?
I look forward to hearing your replies,
2nd May 2020
Hi Class 4,
Family Gil woke to a very windy morning. A bit of a change after these beautiful days of sun we have been enjoying. I was hoping to plant out our sunflowers as the tallest is now over a metre but I think the wind is too strong even with a cane. Have any of you been growing sunflowers? I wonder who has the tallest? Maybe you can email me a picture of you measuring it.
The maths challenge for this week is all about measurements. I am having to go through George's clothes with him as he has grown so much in these last 2 months that barely anything fits him! I bet you have all grown. I am looking forward to see you all again and seeing how much you have grown. I bet some of you won't be far off looking me in the eyes now! How tall are you? Can you measure yourself in feet and inchs as well as centimetres? I am 5 feet 7 inchs. Are you taller yet?
We have decided to do random acts of kindness today. Starting the day picking up and putting away our neighbours wheelie bins; most of which had blown over! We have been giving away house plants which have now all found new home- 20 in total! I have more baby plants coming so it feels lovely to get them all new home. Fred has been tackling the dishwasher today and George, the laundry. What could you do to help someone without being asked?
Make sure you keep safe and have a lovely weekend,
31st May 2020
Hello Class 4,
Again I have had some wonderful work from you all and have been putting them into folders for each of you so we can share them together in class. I am impressed at how much some of you have grown! Everyone's maths work looks great. Some excellent tables of measuring! Again saved to share when we are back together.
Family Gil are having their first BBQ of the year today. We use the disposable BBQ's so we have been saving our last two for a special day and I think getting ready to come back together is a special day.
What are you doing to mark this special day?
As usual; let me know by email.
I will see some of you tomorrow and the rest of you later in 2020,
