Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Rearsby School Pupils Experience History in the Making on Educational Visit to London

Pupils from Class 4 at St Michael and All Angels CofE Primary School in Rearsby enjoyed a truly memorable educational visit to London, experiencing history in the making while deepening their understanding of democracy, British history and the nation's heritage.

The visit to the Houses of Parliament coincided with the day the Prime Minister announced their resignation, creating a unique opportunity for pupils to witness democracy at work during a significant moment in British political history. The children embraced every opportunity to learn, gaining a fascinating insight into how Parliament functions and how the United Kingdom is governed.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to sit inside both the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Having explored these topics in the classroom, pupils were able to bring their learning to life by experiencing first-hand the places where important national decisions are debated and made.

The class also visited Westminster Abbey, where they discovered the rich stories behind one of Britain's most iconic landmarks. Pupils were fascinated to learn about the many monarchs, scientists, writers and influential figures who have been crowned, commemorated or buried there. Standing in such a historically significant setting helped deepen their appreciation of Britain's heritage and provided an unforgettable connection to the curriculum.

Educational visits form an important part of the school's ambitious curriculum, providing experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom and helping pupils make meaningful connections between their studies and the wider world. By visiting places of national importance, children develop cultural capital, broaden their aspirations and gain a deeper understanding of the subjects they study, creating memorable experiences that inspire a lifelong love of learning.

Executive Headteacher Neil Bardsley said:

"Educational visits like this are an essential part of the learning experience at St Michael and All Angels. They bring the curriculum to life, broaden children's horizons and create lasting memories. I was incredibly proud of how our pupils represented the school, showing resilience, curiosity and exemplary behaviour throughout what was a truly historic and unforgettable day."

These opportunities also support the teaching of British Values by enabling pupils to experience democracy, the rule of law, mutual respect and an appreciation of Britain's rich cultural and historical heritage. Through first-hand experiences, children develop the knowledge, confidence and understanding needed to become informed, responsible citizens.

The visit to London is just one example of the broad range of enrichment opportunities available at Rearsby Primary School. Across every year group, pupils benefit from experiences designed to complement classroom learning and equip them with valuable knowledge and life skills.

By combining high-quality teaching with enriching educational experiences, Rearsby Primary School continues to provide a broad, engaging curriculum that nurtures curiosity, builds confidence and ensures every child has the opportunity to thrive both inside and beyond the classroom.
