Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood Visit St Michael and All Angels CE Primary School

St Michael and All Angels CE Primary School, located in Rearsby and part of Rise Multi Academy Trust, were delighted to welcome Councillor David Northage, Mayor of Charnwood, and the Mayoress, Jenny Northage, for a very special visit to the school.

Dressed in their traditional ceremonial robes and adorned with their gold chains of office, the Mayor and Mayoress were greeted by excited students and staff eager to learn more about local government and civic life.

During the visit, pupils had the unique opportunity to ask questions about the Mayor’s role, the history of the office, and the responsibilities involved in representing the borough. They were also joined by the Mayor’s civic aid, who brought along the historic ceremonial mace dating back to the 1800s, offering students a fascinating insight into local history and tradition.

Executive Headteacher Neil Bardsley said:

“It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to meet such inspiring local figures and gain a deeper understanding of how local democracy works. The children were captivated by the Mayor’s stories and the history he shared with them.”

The visit provided a valuable learning experience that combined history, citizenship, and community engagement — leaving a lasting impression on both pupils and staff.

St Michael and All Angels CE Primary School extends its sincere thanks to Councillor David Northage, the Mayoress, and their civic team for taking the time to visit and share their knowledge and experiences. It was an afternoon filled with curiosity, inspiration, and civic pride.
